Sometimes Change is a Good Thing

It's not a rare thing for people to be ready for a change. Recently we have been getting the bug to do some sailing to some far off distant island.  Depending on where you live, some call this feeling "Cabin Fever", or "Spring Fever".  Here on St. John we refer to that feeling of needing a change and of the irritability that seems to go with it as, "Rock Fever".  We may even say, "we need to get off the rock!"  That feeling has been building over the last few weeks, partly due to the fact that we have hit the midway slump in our busy tourist season leaving us ready for a needed reboot.  And besides the busy tourist season no matter where you live (albeit, even on a beautiful little island), a change is needed from time to time.

With these dreams of sailing far away racing around our brains we are continually working on Obsession to get her ready for anything we might want to do in the future.  Thus, my desire to rid ourselves of everything nonessential. (aka previous post :)  On the mechanical front, Terry has been making a long, detailed list of things that must be done on the boat when we haul her out (literally haul our boat out of the water and put her on supports so we can work on her on land), which hopefully will happen in May.  Bottom paint, cutlass bearings, engine mounts.  .  .  .  the list seems to grow daily but all are very essential to keep everything in good order.

We would love to sail down island to Grenada or Bequia next year or somewhere out of the way of hurricanes, probably from mid August to October.  This year we hope to at least get a few weeks of sailing in, perhaps going to Culebra in Puerto Rico or check out Vieques, PR.  I would love to spend a week in Anegada again.  It's been years but there are two publishers on this tiny island with a population of about 200 people, and it would be fun to see them and to go in the ministry with them.

St. John is a great home base though, and we are not ready to give that up yet.  However, being a little freer with our time would help on so many levels, spiritually, mentally and even physically. Everyone who knows us though knows we can't stay put for very long so this of course is not a new trend with us.  We seem to have gypsy blood in our soul and I am learning to enjoy each moment because I never know where Terry, . . . I mean life might lead me.  :)

In the meantime we took Obsession out to stretch her and our legs over the weekend.

We have had no pictures of us under sail, but our friend Tina captured this from her boat as we were buzzing by.  Definitely need to get a few more of us sailing.

Final thought for the day.  "Sometimes a little change is a good thing."   So, so true, and looking forward to it.
