An Oasis in Coral Bay

Just an FYI, that's a Century Plant with lights on it, not a Christmas Tree. :)

Traditions
In 2001, when we first moved to St. John one of our traditions was to get out of the "big town" of Cruz Bay at least once a week.  We enjoyed the long, scenic drive to Coral Bay.  It was a nice way to break up the work week, get a chance to talk and eat someplace a little different.  Our restaurant of choice at the time was Island Blues, which offered a casual atmosphere right on the water, reasonable priced food and cheap drinks.  A nice place to relax with friends during the week. Sadly, upon our return this go around, Island Blues was not what it once was.  The litanies of what made it so not right anymore cannot even be gone into, suffice it to say its now closed. So sad.

However, there is an "Oasis" in Coral Bay that may fit our needed Wednesday night get out of town fix.

Simple, great food, clean, friendly and reasonable.  All important adjectives when referring to some of our favorite "go to" spots in the islands.  Oasis offers a surprisingly diverse menu.  Definitely a step up from your local beach bar menu.  The menu changes nightly.  Sunday night it was Chicken Fried Chicken with Honey Pecan sauce or gravy($9), Spanikopita ($9) or Shrimp Alfredo ($12).  There are also a number of sides to choose from stewed okra to mac and cheese ($4 to $6 a side, and huge portions).

We instantly fell in love with this quirky little place!  There is local art, fun memorabilia and bumper stickers galore.  And when Sam, the Manager heard it was our first time (embarrassing since we've been back for over a year again!) he threw me a coozie!  How can you not love that!

Looks like we found our new favorite Wednesday spot.

Free popcorn!  I'm hooked!
Well, worth the drive.
